João Louro
Participated in Alvaro García de Zúñiga's plays : Le Théâtre n'est que du Cinéma and Press Conference
Born in Lisbon, 1963, where he lives and works. Made his studies at Faculdade de Arquitectura de Lisboa and Ar.Co – Centro de Arte e Comunicação Visual. His body of work encompasses painting, sculpture, photography and video. A natural descendant of conceptual and minimal art, João Louro strives to go beyond the Romantic paradigm by giving pride of place to the role of the spectator, who is, according to him, the key element in the completion of the work of art. One of the main objectives of his work is the reorganisation of the visual universe. His other priority is language, in all its potentialities and aspects. María de Corral invited him to take part in the group exhibition The Experience of Art, in the Italian Pavilion, during the 51st Venice Biennale (2005). Most recent exhibitions: Blind Runner, Centro Cultural de Belém, Lisbon (2004); inSite 05 – Art Practices in the Public Domain, San Diego/Tijuana (2005); Play, Rec and Pause, Christopher Grimes Gallery, Los Angeles (2006); and Big Bang, Galeria Cristina Guerra Contemporary Art, Lisbon (2007). His work is featured in important public and private collections, such as Fundación ARCO (Madrid, Spain) and Margulies Collection (Miami, USA).
